Jefferson Avenue Townhouse

The Jefferson townhouse was originally built in the late 1800’s in the heart of Brooklyn and stayed in the same family from the 1970’s until 2021 when purchased by our clients. The project required a complete gut-renovation including all new finishes, plumbing, mechanicals, and windows. Our approach utilized Passive House principles (airtightness, insulation, triple pane windows, ERV) to deliver the most comfort and energy efficiency for the client.

The organization and layout of the house is an honest reflection of the couple who lives there. The open Parlor Level greets friends with a refurbished fireplace and inviting kitchen, breakfast nook, and enlarged doors to the deck and backyard. Light floods in from two new skylights on the Second Level, with the primary suite, two offices, and roof access for future gardening and group hangouts. The Garden Level is an accessible guest apartment, with a kitchenette and bifold door to the backyard grill and sauna. Finishes and colors throughout the house are a reflection of the clients’ openness with warmth, light, and vibrancy. Small moments of surprise and connections to the outdoors are scattered throughout, such as a window in the guest bathroom that allows one to soak and feel the breeze.
